The former German Federal President Christian Wulff was elected unanimously as President of the EMA during the General Assembly. “An organization that is engaged so extensively and on an equal footing for concrete projects with the Arab countries, deserves every measure of support”, said Wulff.
Science meets Business - The EMA is pleased to be actively engaged in the University-Business-Partnership-Programme between Hamburg University, Cairo University and the ESSEC Tunis for a stronger interaction between higher education institutions and enterprises to bring about a transfer of knowledge, thus being able to better satisfy the requirements and developments of the job market in the future.

„We are ready … are you?“ – these were the final words of the speech of H. E. Badreldin Abdalla Mohamed, the ambassador-designate of the Republic of Sudan in Germany. The speech touched upon the topics of the economic situation and investment opportunities in Sudan within the framework of a Salon Diplomatique, as it was the ambassador’s first public appearance in Germany.

Dr. Alkhateeb, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Germany, at the 4th Business Forum Iraq in Nuremberg. The attendant entrepreneurs of both regions were convinced that much idle potential can be used in future.

Numerous entrepreneurs and representatives of politics and business from Germany and the EMA region met in Hamburg for the 2nd German-Arab Logistics Forum to confer on challenges, innovations and cooperation possibilities in the logistics sector. The delegation from the EMA region was highly pleased by the professional organisation and the newly won contacts.

Hermann Zoder, Member of the EMA Board, signed together with the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of teh Central Region of Tunisia, Nejib Mellouli, a Memorandum of Understanding, which fosteres the future cooperation between the institutions and further broadens the EMA network.

Dr. Abdelkader Amara, for an exclusive exchange in the Anglo-German Club in Hamburg, introducing the strong engagement of the EMA for Morocco and the entire EMA region.

Within the develoment of the EMA, the Board decided on basis of a Member's agreement to change the official name of the EMA.
H.E. Prof. Dr. med. Ossama bin Abdulmajed Ali Shobokshi himself informed the guests of the Salon Diplomatique Saudi-Arabia about the great plans of the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia, which seeks a thriving economic future, and about the role German companies can play in that process.

The EMA and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation came together to organize the Hamburg Cultural Discussion on Tunisia's and Egypt's new Constitutions. Diplomatic representatives, Mr. Mohamed Imed Torjemane, Consul of the Republic of Tunisia, and Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Ezzat Abdel Hakim, Consul General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, shared their insights on the current political developments in their respective countries.

The 4th Meeting of the German-Algeria Economic Commission in Algier took place under the supremacy of Mr. Stefan Kapfere, Secretary of state at the Ministry of Economy and Energy, and the Minister of Industry of Algeria. The EMA was actively engaged in organizing the delegation and networked with important political and economic decision-makers ahead of the Hamburg Economic Forum for Algeria.

A special highlight of the “2nd Maghreb Forum” was the signing of four conventions for a recessed German-Maghrebian Economic Cooperation: The Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), the Arab Maghreb Union of Economic Chambers (UCEMA), the Confederation of Tunisian Citizen Enterprises (CONECT) and the Women in Business Committee-Tripoli (WiBCT). The close partnership with the local associations will particularly be a benefit the EMA members, by giving them valuable information and contacts in order to develop concrete projects.

Mr. Mohamed Ould Bilal, Minister of Infrastructure and Construction (former) and Member of the executive office of the Chamber of Commerce of Mauritania, attended the Forum as a close EMA partner and presented in his new function as the General Director of the electricity company of Mauritania (SOMELEC) the numerous opportunities for the German energy sector. Due to his numerous merits and the long-standing partnership with the EMA, Mr. Bilal was solemnly appointed as Honorary Member of the EMA.

During the "2nd Maghreb-Forum" at the Representation of the city of Hamburg in Berlin, famous Maghrebian delegations and representatives of the German economy could exchange very successful on specific potentials of cooperation. “Germany is an ideal partner for economic co-operation with the Maghreb and for the Maghrebian integration. Together with the EMA, we will develop deeper relations.” affirmed the General Secretary of the Union of the Maghreb, H.E. Habib Ben Yahia.

Another step in preparation for the German-Djiboutian Economic Forum is done: The Roundtable on Djibouti titled "Djibouti - a winner of globalization" took place in the Bavarian Landtag in Munich. Interesting presentations on the economic opportunities in the country were given amongst others by Dr. Ismael Wais, economic advisor to the President of the Republic of Djibouti.
